Burial on the prairie in progress
This sculpture is a response to my mother's burial in a lonely, cold, cemetery on a bleak March day in Cerro Gordo, Illinois. This is a work in progress. Although the "big" sculpture is finished I am working toward another and final version which will be a re-presentation, a memory of sorts, of this piece, which itself is my memory/feeling of that day. I have built a small version of the full sized piece and I plan on showing that small piece with photographs, movies, words, samples perhaps, of things that are intrgal to my experience of that event. By referencing this event with a re-presenting of it I hope to move from the specific event to a wider more universal statement.
